I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore. Psalm 121 KJV
An imbalance of sleep and activity is prevalent in our country. An overactive society creates insomniacs because our bodies are not given the balance of sleep it needs to be at its best. When we work endlessly or engage in vigorous activity, without proper rest, we throw balance out the window. In between sleep and activity, should be rest or down time.
“The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, gives you peace to sleep restful.”
People often try to go from activity to sleep immediately, but these opposite states require a transitional period. When a child becomes cranky, he is often “fighting sleep” because he does not know how to transition from activity to sleep. Reducing activity before sleep allows a child to enjoy naps, quiet time and sleep peacefully at night.
Many people today go and go, until they are ready to drop physically because they do not have set patterns of rest. They work or stay awake at night, reversing the natural cycle of sleep, and then they are exhausted during day hours, when they are required to function and operate deadly machines such as vehicles, sometimes to their endangerment and others. In addition, people take medicine to get to a sleep state, which can create additional problems, such as drug dependency. Many experience insomnia regularly and instead of using natural remedies, like a warm bowl of soup or turning the television off before sleep, they go to doctors, for medication. They rely on pills to induce, what is, a natural life function.
Every problem that the world tells us we need a pill for, God says “I AM the answer to your problem” In this instance, Jesus says, “I am rest.” Before you lay down to sleep, transition to “down time” and ask God for peaceful rest. We need rest and peace of mind in order to make quality decisions when we are active. The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, gives you peace to sleep restful, without worry. You do not need a pill, you need Jesus Christ. While fake gods cannot address your needs, the true and living God, Jesus Christ, can tackle every need you have and is available for everything you need, including rest.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul… Psalm 23: 1-3 KJV
