![]() Do Prayers of Sports Teams keep Fans Safe? While there have been increasing shootings and attacks in public settings, “Are certain public settings safer than others?” As sports fans gear up for Super Bowl, it seems that national sports arenas have been relatively safe, as opposed to tragedy-plagued schools, movie theaters, malls and outdoor events. Even though arenas are heavily guarded, is there a divine covering of protection over fans because the teams routinely pray before the games? While schools have banned prayer, national sports teams typically pray before the start of every game. Don’t Underestimate Prayers The world today is on constant alert for attack, in which case every layer of protection is warranted. Checking in with God, through personal and collective prayers, is a small endeavor for divine protection from life-altering attacks. Despite security, which is only as good as its’ manpower and intelligence, we cannot afford to underestimate the power of prayer. “You do not have to be recognized by a church to have your prayers recognized by God.” Gone are the days when you can send your children off to school, without praying for their safety before they step out the door. Every new day, it is essential to take a few moments out of your schedule to be still and pray. Your prayers do not have to be lengthy or rehearsed; they just have to be sincere. You do not have to be perfect or have the ideal life, but you do have to recognize and revere Jesus Christ, the perfect One. You do not have to go to church on Sundays, but you do have to acknowledge our Creator as God, not worshipping anyone else. Football players may seldom be at church (and are not perfect), but collectively they don’t dismiss the opportunity to pray where they are, in the locker room. You can be anywhere when you pray. You can pray silently or with a team of people. You do not have to be recognized by a church to have your prayers recognized by God. Simple Prayers Work There is nothing more important for you to do in your day than to take a few minutes to talk to God. You talk to friends and family throughout your day, certainly you can find time for God, the One who protects your life and the lives of those you love. So, if you are a team player for humanity, do like the sports teams and exercise the power you have to pray for your safety and the safety of all attendees at events and activities you attend. Pray wherever you go and expect Jesus Christ, the true God, who loves you, to protect you by diverting and blocking ill-intended moves of would-be attackers. The Power of Prayer Prayer can block attacks, not just for the well-being of your child, but for all children at your child’s school. Prayer can circumvent potential attacks and save entire communities, while ongoing and collective prayers can save entire nations from attacks. Praying to God, our Creator, makes a huge difference—it is the difference between tragic outcomes that make no conscionable sense and protection so profound that intended harm never comes near us. So, don’t forget to pray before you venture out for a day of work, school or a fun-filled day of sports events.
