Millions of Blacks have been vaccinated safely!

The vaccine is everyone’s best option to protect from Covid-19, even though Blacks have had good reason to be hesitant due to misinformation early on about the Covid vaccine. When the pandemic started, false information was spread that Blacks could not contract Covid-19, a narrative that helped Whites get a head start on Covid testing. Then when the vaccination became available in late 2020, false information was spread again that Blacks refuse getting the vaccine because of the Tuskegee experiment. Most Blacks were not thinking about the experiment, because they were dealing with the overwhelming issues of the pandemic that was killing people of all races. Lack of accessibility and demands of work are more often issues that prevent Blacks from getting the vaccine. But, the false narratives gave some Whites, again, the opportunity to be first in getting the vaccine, as some governors and mayors had a delay in distributing the vaccine fairly. It has been proven that Blacks have no different physical reaction to the vaccine than any other group. Blacks now have gotten the vaccine in large numbers—the same vaccinations that Whites get. The benefit of the vaccine is that it prevents hospitalization and death, if a person contracts the virus or a variant of the virus. It is important to note that the vaccine was developed by an African American woman, a 34-year-old doctor named Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett. This vaccine was created quick because Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett provided information that had already been in the works for years.
Here are 10 reasons to get the COVID vaccine:
1. You got vaccines when you were a child. For decades, childhood vaccinations have been given to school children to meet school requirements and it is the reason certain diseases have been wiped from our society. In addition to keep populations safe, it has long been customary for global travelers, and the military, to get mandatory vaccinations to enter certain countries.
2. Vaccines are not based on skin-color. The same Covid vaccinations are given to all people, regardless of color and ethnicity. Even though, misinformation led the public to think some people were more susceptible to coronavirus than others, the vaccines are available to everyone and provide the same protection to all humans. Initially, it was even noted that some Whites got vaccines in predominately Black areas, when the vaccine was scarcely available. If harmful shots were issued in predominately Black areas, many Whites would have been harmed, but the vaccine shots are safe for all people, regardless of race or color. It would serve no one to give unsafe vaccines to some, because it would not help to reduce the spread of the virus and variants. Black and Brown people have had a horrific time during the pandemic, largely because of social economic conditions, such as living in densely populated areas, using public transportation or working essential jobs that physically serve the public. Blacks, who live under these conditions, are at greater danger of contracting the virus and therefore need to get the vaccine.
3. Vaccines protect your finances from Covid. The vaccine protects your life and your finances from the destruction of the deadly contagious disease. Many who end up hospitalized with Covid get outrageous hospitals bills, not covered by insurance that can disrupt their lives, financially. The best thing you can do for your family is to protect yourself and your family by getting vaccinated. Nobody is going to protect your finances, if you don’t make the sensible choice to vaccinate, to protect yourself from hefty medical expenses. You have now seen that millions of Blacks have been safely vaccinated.
4. Vaccines protect Black families and Black communities. Blacks are less likely to have health care, so you protect the entire Black community, when you vaccinate and encourage others to do so! Even if you don’t live in a predominately Black community, if you congregate with Blacks at social events, you help protect Black communities by vaccinating. Don’t follow illogical advice from wealthy anti-vaxxers, who discourage the public from getting the vaccine, because some of them are vaccinated. While Covid can attack anyone, the wealthy, if not vaccinated, are able to afford the best treatment and won’t be harmed financially, at least. Spreading the word to Blacks to get vaccinated can keep Blacks out of the hospital, where they don’t know what kind of care they will get, due to racial disparities and the overwhelming hospital conditions due to Covid.

5. The elderly and health-compromised get priority for the vaccine and boosters. The Black community must protect the elderly and those who are health compromised by getting vaccinated, and helping them get the vaccine. The cdc.gov site, states that “COVID-19 vaccines may be administered to most people with underlying medical conditions” and “preventive measures for COVID-19 (including vaccination, wearing a mask and social distancing) are important especially if you are older or have multiple or severe health conditions.” Blacks, who have diabetes or are overweight, putting them in a high risk category, gives them priority for the vaccine. Health officials gave high-risk citizens and the elderly priority, when the vaccine first became available. Reach out to anyone in a high-risk category to help them get vaccinated. Call your doctor, if you have questions about a specific condition. The vaccine sites do not ask medical questions, other than, “Are you allergic to any type of medication?”
6. Help Black businesses stay open. Black businesses will struggle to stay open until herd immunity is reached in vaccinating the country. So, until the majority of citizens agree to get a vaccine, the business world will struggle to provide adequate supplies of products and full services to the public. The struggle to stay open is greater for Black owners and their workers during the pandemic, so every Black person, who gets vaccinated, is helping to save people and Black businesses.
7. Vaccinated people are becoming preferred workers and customers. Don’t miss out on opportunities because you are not vaccinated or fully immunized. In order to protect the public, at anytime, companies and industries could mandate vaccinations for the public to participate in their activities or enter their establishments. The business world wants people who are not liabilities, but who are willing participants to protect themselves and the public. Those who refuse to get vaccinated may make it easier for vaccinated people to move into higher-paying positions. Companies do not want to be a part of putting workers at risk, and losing workers or customers to a deadly virus. Vaccinating can be a benefit for Blacks to get hired, but don’t wait until companies require vaccinations. Simply get vaccinated, so you can present proper documents, when any opportunity presents itself.

8. Exercise your power to think for yourself. Don’t be anti-vaccine, against a deadly virus, on the advice of others, when some express anti-vaccination rhetoric, yet are secretly vaccinated to protect themselves. Some may protest against vaccines, publicly, yet get the vaccine to comply with job mandates or other activities, instead of stand up for their “principles.” Use your own wisdom to protect yourself. The best option to prevent the health complications of Covid, and its long-haul effects, is to get vaccinated.
9. Advanced societies vaccinate! One advantage that advanced societies have is vaccinations against deadly diseases. Let’s get vaccinated because vaccines have contributed to our country’s success.
10. The vaccine is free of charge and widely available to everyone. The government has made accommodations to provide vaccines to everyone. You don’t need health insurance or a primary doctor. Your social security number will not be asked. Only name, address and date of birth are asked. This information allows the local government to know how many people are vaccinated in certain age groups and areas. Go to vaccine.gov for more information, or ask a friend to help you get the vaccine. The vaccine is widely available, whereby you can get a vaccine at your local pharmacy, a local church or even a barber shop—and in many places, you no longer need to make an appointment in advance.
